South East Region History

The South East Region (SER) is one of seven regions within the structure of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters (IABPFF) that began in 1970. It has a rich history of being the front- runner in leadership and organization initiatives for the IABPFF.

The region consists of nine states and the District of Columbia:

  • Alabama,
  • Florida,
  • Georgia,
  • Maryland,
  • Mississippi,
  • North Carolina,
  • South Carolina,
  • Tennessee,
  • Virginia.

The first Regional Director was Samuel S. Wilson from Baltimore, MD, 1970-1972. The SER has enjoyed the leadership of the following Directors since then:

  • Brenda Brooks –  2015 – Present (Orlando, Florida)
  • Lindsey L. Plummer – 2003 – 2015 (Miami, Florida)
  • Leroy Norwood – 1991 – 2003 (Chattanooga, Tennessee)
  • Theodore O. Holmes – 1983 – 1991 (Washington, DC)
  • Alphonso Thornton – 1977 – 1983 (Baltimore, Maryland)
  • Freddie L. Brown – 1975 – 1977 (Washington, DC)
  • Calvin Brown – 1972 – 1975 (Baltimore, Maryland)
